The Launch and Missile Defense Systems (LMDS) division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer - Algorithm. The position is located on-site in Boulder, CO.  Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver.

Position Overview:

As a Systems Engineer within Advanced Programs, your experience with physics, mathematics, and object-oriented programing will assist in the research, development, and growth of complex mission software applications. You will be working with a fast-paced and exciting research and development environment that utilizes your familiarity with modern software practices. You are expected to communicate technical information effectively and clearly, and present technical approaches and findings. Our team of motivated technical talent works closely with the end user (and each other) to ensure the direct mission applicability of developed products.

Our team is chartered with providing innovative technologies to develop, design, and produce optimized product lines across multiple customers while providing a decisive advantage to the warfighter. Advanced Programs is looking for new members to join our rapidly growing technical team as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer based out of Boulder, CO. Relocation assistance is not available.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Algorithm development, defect tracking, and resolution in C++.
• Algorithm trade studies, prototyping and performance analysis of tracking and state estimation algorithms.
• Active participation in version control and Agile development.
• Operate proficiently in Linux environments.
• Work in cross-discipline teams and communicate clearly across various levels of engineers.
• Technical documentation as required.

Basic Qualifications:

• Senior Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, or related discipline and 8 years of related experience; a Masters degree and 6 years of related experience, or a PhD and 4 years of related experience.
• Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application, with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
• Strong background in applied mathematics to include understanding of numerical optimization, statistical modeling, stochastic processes, and linear algebra
• Breadth and depth in the application of mathematics to perform trade studies, data analysis, and algorithm development for military applications.
• Experience with modern C++ (C++11 and later) and object-oriented programming.
• Experience developing in Linux environments. 
• Familiarity with revision control, documentation, planning, and review systems like Git.
• Software development and troubleshooting in a team environment.
• Experience in technical leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current active in-scope Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.
• Experience in state estimation and tracking algorithms.
• Experience with Python and/or MATLAB.
• Experience with multi-threaded applications and low-latency programming paradigms.
• Familiarity working with Atlassian ecosystem tools.
