Overview

Navitas Systems is seeking a Senior Battery Management System (BMS) Engineer to lead the end-to-end execution of BMS development for lithium-ion battery products serving military, commercial, and industrial markets.

 

This role is an individual contributor position, responsible for technical ownership and delivery of an entire BMS product, from design through production launch. The Senior BMS Engineer applies established platform architecture and standards and coordinates firmware, hardware, systems, test, and manufacturing activities to ensure successful product execution.

 

In this role, you will lead the execution of a complete BMS program, serve as the primary technical point of contact for the product, and ensure that BMS solutions are delivered on schedule, meet requirements, and perform reliably in the field.

 

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end execution of BMS product development for an assigned product, from requirements definition through validation and product launch.
  • Serve as the single technical owner responsible for overall BMS delivery, integration, and phase gate readiness.
  • Drive technical execution schedules, identify risks, and resolve cross-functional issues impacting BMS delivery.
  • Coordinate firmware, electrical hardware, systems, test, and manufacturing activities related to the BMS.
  • Lead BMS-level technical reviews, integration reviews, and readiness assessments.
  • Ensure subsystem designs align with overall BMS requirements, interfaces, and performance expectations.
  • Own one or more BMS subsystems or functional areas directly, while overseeing integration of all BMS components.
  • Lead complex firmware, algorithm, and diagnostic implementations within program scope.
  • Ensure design quality, testability, and compliance within the established BMS architecture.
  • Apply BMS architecture, standards, and design patterns defined by Principal engineers.
  • Identify architectural gaps, technical risks, or cross-program conflicts and escalate appropriately.
  • Lead BMS-level DFMEA, FTA, and risk assessments for the program.
  • Ensure verification and validation strategies adequately cover system behavior, safety, and diagnostics.
  • Drive closure of technical issues identified during validation, production testing, or early field deployment.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of embedded systems work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with battery or relevant energy systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical execution of complex engineering programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Practical experience with lithium-ion battery products, including battery protection schemes and safety standards.
  • Strong experience with BMS firmware, electronics, diagnostics, and system integration.
  • Proven ability to lead execution across multiple engineering disciplines without formal authority.
  • Deep understanding of lithium-ion battery behavior, protection strategies, and safety mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, CANOpen, J1939, and
