Reporting directly to the Director of the Center for Women, the Assistant Director serves as a key member of the Center for Women within the broader context of the Belonging and Community Justice (BCJ) area.

 

Belonging and Community Justice is comprised of six identity spaces at Emory that serve as a hub of support for students to matriculate to and through the university and includes the Asian Student Center (ASC); Centro Latinx; the Emory Black Student Union (EBSU); Emory First; the Center for Women at Emory (CWE); and LGBT Life.BCJ promotes dynamic and cohesive learning by creating space for individual, cultural, and communal development. BCJ's value of ensuring every student belongs and graduates is central to all programming, events, and initiatives within and across the respective identity spaces.

 

Center for Women at Emory University is an identity space focused on supporting all Emory undergraduate, graduate and professional students including women and gender diverse students. The Center for Women is led by a director and supported by the associate director and assistant directors.The Center for Women also employees several undergraduate and graduate student staff supervised by the associate and assistant directors.

 

This position is student-centered and responsible for supporting the Director's strategic vision and alignment of Emory resources to coordinate and assess community relevant programs and services to support access, academic progress, sense of belonging, persistence, and retention of students who find their place in the Center for Women. Supports collaboration amongst other identity spaces within Belonging and Community Justice (Asian Student Center; Centro Latinx; Center for Women at Emory, Emory First; and Emory Black Student Union) as well as colleagues across Emory Campus Life, Provost areas, and the university as a whole to develop intentional planning and implementation of programs and resources focused on students salient and non-salient identities and intersectionality while also promoting a university culture of inclusion where students from all identities can thrive.

 

This position focuses on supporting students and their personal and professional development. Actively engages in student advising and forges strong partnerships across campus to enhance the services available to women and gender diverse students and the broader student body.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Student Support & Supervision

  • Provides resources to all women and gender diverse college students, with a specific focus on the undergraduate student experience.
  • Serves as an advisor for student organizations supporting women and gender diverse students.
  • Collaborates with student organizations and campus partners leading high impact practices for women and gender diverse students.
  • Refers women and gender diverse students to appropriate campus resources for support, as needed (i.e. Student Involvement, Leadership, and Transitions, Student Case Management and Intervention Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, etc).
  • Meets one-on-one with all students who request assistance in collaboration with the Center for Women Leadership Team.
  • Creates reflective spaces for women and gender diverse students to celebrate their gender identities.
  • Supports the creation and implementation of professional development for student staff included but not limited to Center for Women graduate assistants and student staff.
  • Supervises and develops Center for Women undergraduate student staff members.
  • Responds to and supports leadership in crisis situations in accordance with university policies and protocols.

Emory and Campus Life Program Coordination:

  • Develops, coordinates, and executes comprehensive and consistent women and gender diverse- specific programs and services designed to support Emory's Student Flourishing Initiative.
  • Assists in creating and implementing outcome-based, innovative, and transformative programs that invite all students to communicate across lines of social identities.
  • Coordinates efforts to welcome women and gender diverse students to Emory, including those transitioning from the Oxford Campus.
  • Supports the Center for Women staff with additional large-scale programs such as the National Women's History Month.
  • Collects and tracks quantitative and qualitative program data and trends.
  • Supports the BCJ areas and initiatives as well
