Overview
The Pharmacy Compliance Analyst is responsible for ensuring that the pharmacy operates in compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and accreditation requirements. This role involves conducting audits, identifying deficiencies, and implementing corrective actions to ensure that pharmacy technicians and the pharmacy as a whole are meeting required standards. The specialist will also be responsible for maintaining accreditation status and ensuring ongoing compliance with industry regulations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to pharmacy operations, including regulations from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), State Boards of Pharmacy, and other relevant bodies.
- Review and update pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current regulations and best practices.
- Coordinate and manage accreditation processes for the pharmacy, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared, submitted, and maintained.
- Maintain relationships with accrediting organizations and stay current on accreditation standards and changes.
- Lead efforts to achieve and maintain accreditation status through preparation, submission of materials, and regular follow-ups
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of pharmacy practices, operations, and pharmacy technician performance to identify areas of non-compliance or deficiencies.
- Develop and implement action plans to correct deficiencies, ensuring that improvements are made in a timely and effective manner.
- Work closely with pharmacy leadership to ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- Provide training and guidance to pharmacy staff on compliance, accreditation standards, and best practices.
- Ensure that pharmacy technicians are trained on compliance procedures, proper documentation, and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct ongoing education to ensure staff are aware of regulatory changes and updates.
- Prepare detailed reports on compliance audits, deficiencies, and corrective actions for management and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, training, and audits for internal and external review.
- Stay informed of changes in pharmacy regulations, industry standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Propose and implement process improvements to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.

- Prepare and submit accreditation materials for reviews and renewals, ensuring compliance with all standards and addressing any updates in accreditation criteria.
- Regularly review and update policies to reflect changes in state/federal laws and accreditation standards, ensuring the pharmacy remains compliant.
- Review state newsletters and updates monthly to track regulatory changes and ensure pharmacy compliance with new state laws.
- Collect and analyze data for quality improvement, creating quarterly presentations on performance, improvements, and action plans.
- Prepare and assist in PBM audits by ensuring all required records are accurate and addressing any audit discrepancies.
- Oversee compliance training for staff, ensuring timely completion of courses and tracking competency improvements.
- Conduct regular audits of pharmacy operations, identifying compliance gaps and working with leadership on corrective actions.
- Help the Pharmacist in Charge maintain licensure by tracking renewal deadlines and assisting with necessary documentation.
- Support the Director of Pharmacy Operations with compliance tasks, policy implementation, and coordinating pharmacy activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Certification in Pharmacy Compliance, Accreditation, or a related area (preferred).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pharmacy operations or compliance, with a strong understanding of pharmacy regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and collaborate effectively with pharmacy staff and leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines.
- Experience with auditing, regulatory reporting, and quality improvement processes is a plus.
