Position Summary
Working closely with Mohs surgeon, prepares slides for surgeon during each stage of the Mohs procedure. Facilitates day-to-day operations of the Mohs laboratory and procedure suite.
Job Responsibilities
- Processes tissue for Mohs’ surgery which includes dividing, inking, embedding, cutting and staining histology slides from excised cutaneous cancer specimens.
- Assures that histology laboratory is prepared for inking and specimen preparation prior to Mohs surgery sessions starting.
- Maintain laboratory equipment with an emphasis on ensuring that preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
- Maintain inventories of supplies and chemicals used in the Mohs procedure suite by monitoring stock levels and placing orders as needed. Maintains and review of all equipment and materials in the lab.
- Ensures a safe environment in the lab according to OSHA standards (i.e. changing fume hood filters, safety glasses, gloves, etc.). Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, Billing compliance and safety guidelines.
- Maintains quality control logs for slide review. Participates in relative studies by maintaining proper records.
- Responsible for filing slides, pulling appropriate references from the library, organizing Mohs notebook and maintaining logsand files. Maintains the slide archive and pulling appropriate references from the library.
- Assists with preparation of annual New York State lab licensure submissions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- High School Diploma
Experience
Prior Mohs experience is highly desired
College degree (business and health administration concentrations preferred) is highly desired
Familiarity with New York State Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP) regulations is highly desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Licenses and Certifications
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician certification or NYS Certified Histological Technician
