At World of Books the Data Analyst is key to advancing our analytical capabilities and data maturity, enabling the next stage of our growth. This role is an individual contributor focused on reporting and analytics to support the US in trade, supply and operations, though the role can evolve as business needs change.
The Data Analyst will play a key role in:
• Owning reporting and analytics for key business areas of focus where they will drive and execute multiple initiatives independently, this would include:
◦ Analysis that drives strategic decisions and sizes the opportunity
◦ Understanding and answering business questions in the simplest way i.e. 80/20 pareto principle
◦ Quantifying and challenging hypotheses and assumptions
◦ Reporting and defining metrics
◦ Understanding drivers of business performance
• Leading initiatives end-to-end which involves building and validating datasets, developing reporting, analysing complex datasets, and presenting results and actionable recommendations, and measurement of resulting actions.
• Ensuring robust statistical and analytical methods are used.
• Effectively collaborating and managing stakeholders by understanding their needs and managing their expectations, to challenging business partners to encourage healthy debate and the best outcome for the business.
• Cross-functionally collaborating closely with key business partners, Product, Tech, and others.
• Communicating insights effectively, translating complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations with a strong focus on commercial impact.
• Engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives.
• Improving efficiency by automating analysis to ensure focus is on new value-add analysis.
• Contributing to initiatives for the broader analytics team and community
• Continuously learning and raising the bar for quality and rigour.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science or related field from a leading university.
• 3+ years in analytics, and ideally from Ecom/Marketplace background.
• SQL – strong experience required; can debug code and explore and query raw data; in Google Cloud environment.
• BI & visualisation – knowledge of Tableau/Power BI/Looker; can spin up dashboards that non-analysts actually use.
• Python – some experience in this, or R; leveraging Vertex AI.
• Analytics experience:
◦ Deep-dive root cause analysis – understand the whys and root cause of a problem.
◦ User funnel analysis – understanding drop-offs and investigating.
◦ Experiment design – A/B, multivariate and incrementality tests including sampling methodologies.
Nice-to-have
• Customer intelligence – segmentation, LTV forecasting and cohort survival analysis.
• Predictive analytics – regression, classification and time-series models that forecast revenue, churn and demand spikes.
• Ability to collaborate across teams, with strong communication skills for engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Good organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
• Some confidence in dealing with ambiguity and changing directions.
SUCCESS MEASUREMENT
Success in the first 12 months will be measured by progress toward:
• Owning and delivering reporting and analytics initiatives that enables and/or drives business value.
• Stakeholders confidently understanding and leveraging reporting and analytics outputs to create measurable value.
• Prioritisation of work aligned with stakeholders needs and business value.
• Contributing to initiatives benefitting the analytics community and business - e.g. harmonising reporting, standardising and increasing documentation, etc.
This role will be hybrid working with at least two day at the Montgomery office, ideally on Tuesday and Thursday.
