Summary:
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, inspects, and visually monitors the operation of the production processing line and equipment and machinery functions. Also operates loading system to trucks and railcars for shipments to customers. All employees at the Leamington plant are responsible for working safely. Employees are fully expected to engage in our See Stop Do culture following all safety procedures and proactively stopping the job and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards or concerns.
What you’ll be contributing:
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Analyzes and troubleshoots equipment problems and malfunctions and ensures these issues are communicated to appropriate personnel including but not limited to supervisors and operators.
- Conducts inspections of field equipment, including conveyors, electrical gauges, bearing temperatures, oil temperatures, motors, belts, compressors, and other related equipment.
- Reports need for maintenance repair on equipment through plant work order system.
- Performs minor maintenance work and reports need for maintenance repair of equipment.
- Inspects and monitors positions of gates, valves and chutes for proper operations and performs required adjustments.
- Write work requests on assets that need repair or design improvements.
- Provides guidance to maintenance department on assets that need repair or need to be electrically or mechanically improved.
- Is trained and understands refractory repair work such as, overseeing brick installation, and oversee’s tower, cooler, and other refractory repairs to ensure work is completed per Ash Grove Leamington’s standards. .
- Inspects preheater to ensure proper flow, removes buildup with proper PPE and uses cardox system in built up area.
- Reclaim raw materials into the correct raw silos.
- Operates loading system or assists in the automated loading of cement into trucks and rail cars when necessary.
- Aligns rail cars on tracks as needed for loading and shipping.
- Operates computer to enter verified amounts and types of cement shipped to customers.
- Measures cement silos to monitor inventory.
- Monitors cement transfer system.
- May provide vacation and relief coverage for Production Utility, or Control Room Operator, and Production Supervisor as qualified and as needed.
- Performs physical labor, maintenance, and repair duties.
- Performs housekeeping and cleanup duties.

To succeed in this position, you will need:
- Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent in General Studies

Preferred Technical Training or Two years of technical training in science or chemistry

Preferred 2 Years of Experience in performing similar production and quality control functions in a cement or related industrial plant.

Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.

Understands warning labels, instructions, and signs.

Able to look up MSDS’s to ensure material is properly handled.

The Utility person has extensive knowledge of plant operations and processes, including the flow of material through the plant.

Understanding of how process changes affect product quality, and the knowledge of plant equipment numbering, location and operation is an important asset.

A general knowledge of plant mechanical and electrical systems is necessary.

Ability to operate equipment control systems, use general hand tools, and operate processing equipment in a safe manner is required.
