Located out of our Merrillville, IN facility, our General Foreman - Plumbing is responsible for directing, assigning and coordinating the work activities of the plumbing technicians and the daily operations of the plumbing department.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct the technicians to effectively perform the functions of equipment repair, installation, start-up, operation, and other duties as required to ensure customer satisfaction
- Communicate regularly with internal personnel to ensure technicians are properly scheduled according to the level of skill, efficiency, and training needs
- Communicate regularly with General Manager and Group Vice President to report project information, Work-In-Progress (WIP), estimated time to complete jobs, labor hours and parts or materials used
- Under the guidance of the General Manager and Group Vice President, develops and monitors budgets, goals and objectives to insure departmental profitability
- In conjunction with sales team, generating sales leads; and promotes and develops maintenance/service agreements; estimates and generates bids for contract project/work
- Manage larger installation, start-up and commissioning projects; coordinates and directs the team of technicians; perform prestart-up inspections
- Address and make necessary adjustments as issues arise and communicate with appropriate parties and team accordingly
- Ensure safety standards and guidelines are followed on the job site and that all safety codes are met
- Review and negotiate terms and conditions of contracts and subcontracts, send final contracts to Field Operations Director for final review to ensure contracts comply with company guidelines
- Visit customers and encourage direct business development and sales activities for the Plumbing Division
- Attend and participate in sales meetings to discuss any ideas or issues concerning projects, customers or other issues affecting the plumbing division
- Attend and participate in safety meetings
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent work experience in the Plumbing industry required and 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
- Strong technical know-how and capacity.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to make decisions.
- Project management skills, including ability to develop, organize, and accomplish specific goals and plans.
- Ability to proficiently communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
- Teamwork orientation and ability to guide, direct, and motivate subordinates.
Physical Demands:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other plumbing equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.
Work Environment:
This job operates both in teams and alone in all environments, which includes extreme cold or heat depending on the time of year. Vehicles are used as a base of operations.
