RN Residency, Oncology (Fall/Winter Cohort)

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking full-time New Grad RNs for our Oncology Residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A New Graduate Nurse is either a current nursing student nearing graduation from an RN program or a recent graduate with less than six months of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.

• Residency Program: New Graduate RNs at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist receive supportive training led by dedicated nurse educators, including clinical orientation, specialty-specific learning, and skill-building in clinical decision-making, teamwork, communication, and career development. 

The Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Oncology units include:

• Oncology: This unit specializes in leukemia and symptom management. With 40 beds and an RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5, the unit supports long patient stays, fostering strong relationships with patients and families. It features a well-developed onboarding process for new staff.
• Surgical Oncology: This unit has 40 beds and provides care for a range of surgeries, including both cancer-related and non-cancer procedures. It covers various surgical services such as OR, tracheostomies, chest tubes, drains, ENT, and thoracic surgeries. The RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5.
• Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant: This is a 20-bed unit with an RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5. The unit primarily manages patients undergoing chemotherapy and also provides overflow care for surgical patients.

Job Summary

The New Graduate Nurse provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). They lead and direct other assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.   

 

What You’ll Need 

• Less than 6 months of RN experience  
• Graduation from accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. 
• Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina Board of Nursing 
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required  
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines  
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines
