Job Summary:This position is accountable to perform a variety of office coordination, clerical and support functions that will ensure timely and efficient day-to-day operations of the clinical practice. The incumbent will support the mission, vision, values of Mary Washington Healthcare and shall present a positive professional image. This position must demonstrate a commitment of quality customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians, and the general public.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Interfaces courteously and effectively with all practice customers to give assistance, answer questions and facilitate practice operations.
- Provides backup support and/or relief to office coordinator(s) as directed by practice manager which includes performing front office reception, clerical functions, such as: answering telephones, appointment scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, reviewing patient encounter data daily for completeness and accuracy, etc.
- Assists with follow up on inquiries and tasks referred to practice by billing office.
- Obtains patient demographic and insurance information and verifies insurance eligibility prior to claim submission.
- Reviews claim denials related to patient demographic and insurance issues.
- Corrects errors and partners with billing office to facilitate claim re-submission.
- Assists practice with obtaining insurance authorizations.
- Retrieves reports, results and other correspondence from fax machine, mail bin, network folders and other sources.
- Scans or imports document into appropriate patient chart in EHR and forwards to appropriate clinician for review.
- Makes reminder/confirmation phone calls to patients.
- Calls patients to follow up on missed appointments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- Knowledge of physician professional billing strongly preferred.
- Must possess proficient interpersonal, verbal, written and other communication skills.
- Computer and word processing proficiency required.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Minimum of one year medical office experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with office equipment, automated systems and data reporting application strongly preferred.
