Director, Tooling Design

About the role
The Director, Tooling Design leads and coordinates the tooling design department. The Director, Tooling design is responsible for leading the fabrication and maintenance of complex tooling. The incumbent will maintain relationships with outside vendors to ensure we are using the state of the art in tooling and fixturing designs. A key aspect of this position is leading the development of tooling engineers and defining processes and procedures.
- Manages a team of tooling engineers providing guidance and direction.
- Drive program results and report key indicators to senior management.
- Leads the creation and implementation of best practice tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
- Establishes team schedule aligned with production requirements.
- Serves as a member of the development team in designing new products.
- Provides specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of Tool design.
- Leads team to develop innovative solutions for component fabrication and assembly using proven composite bonding and fastening techniques.
- Promote continuous team improvement and training with a focus on quality, accuracy and efficiency
- Identifies external trends and innovative concepts to organization.
- As needed, effectively negotiate, and finalize contracts with vendors.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by manager.
Requirements

- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent design skills in Solidworks or MCAD
- Knowledge of plant safety, environment, and good manufacturing practices
- Must be very detail-oriented and appreciate the value of accuracy
- Ability to multitask
Candidates/incumbents must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant area of study.
- Five or more experience in a managerial role.
