About the role

Job Description Summary

A Senior Engineer in Inspection Engineering will develop and deliver Inspection Tools that are used to perform NDE Inspections of both Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) and Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) at domestic and international Nuclear Plants. The Senior Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of new products and technology to meet customer needs and overcome complex technical challenges. The Senior Engineer will also be responsible to assist in establishing the technical direction for engineering projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, and development for specialty tooling and equipment using sound engineering principles and adhering to engineering standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements.
  • Develop electro-mechanical robotic inspection tooling of high complexity
  • Proactively communicate and deliver assignments on time.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risk.
  • Communicate technical detail to fabricators and technicians through the generation of fabrication drawings, specifications, and direct communication.
  • Generate operational instructions for newly developed tools and equipment.
  • Contribute to the success of others by providing feedback and technical input during design reviews and verifications.
  • Provide emergent issue response to Field Services teams and Customers as required.
  • Interface with a broad, multi-disciplinary team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • 10 years of design experience in Nuclear Servicing or Inspection Equipment.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The required work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC
  • Ability to obtain commercial nuclear site entry.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally to other GE Vernova locations, vendors, and customer sites as necessary.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology.  GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Proficient in 3D CAD design and computer skills.
  • Solid understanding of the principles of Mechanical Design
  • Experience with the selection, use, and design of mechanical components including gears, belts, bolting, pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Experience in the development of equipment within the nuclear services sector, particularly with regards to inspections provided during a maintenance outage at BWR’s and PWR’s
  • Ability to troubleshoot improperly functioning equipment and implement the proper changes.
  • Ability to assess technical risk and devise suitable means to mitigate.
  • Familiarity with LEAN tools and principles.
  • Prior experience onsite at a Nuclear Power Plant Facility in an outage environment

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
