Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Banquet Manager to assist the Banquet Manager and fill in when the manager is absent. Your work will be critical in ensuring the Utah Valley Convention Center meets its goals in customer satisfaction. You may serve as Food & Beverage Manager-on-duty in the absence of the Banquet Manager and Director of Food & Beverage. This position is in place to make sure events run smoothly and most importantly that the beginning and ending processes of an event are done thoroughly and in a timely manner. Our ideal candidate is a leader apt in problem solving and interpersonal skills as you will have a critical role in communication between manager, employees, customers, and other UVCC departments.

 

This role will pay a salary of $42,000 to $48,000.

About the Venue

Located in historic downtown Provo, Utah the Utah Valley Convention Center opened its doors in 2012 as the premiere meeting space in Utah County. The UVCC boasts the perfect blend of modern architecture, flexible meeting space, and breathtaking interior and exterior views of the nearby Wasatch Mountains. This combined with its functional floor plan makes it the perfect venue to host any event.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve customer complaints when approached by clients.
  • Supervise and motivate banquet, concessions and Café staff.
  • Assist in any administrative duties assigned by the Banquet Manager
  • Assist in training new staff.
  • Directs cleaning and organization of dining and storage areas, concession stand, kiosk carts and the Café to ensure that we maintain Utah County Health Department standards.
  • Ensures that all catering serving equipment is cleaned and stored in the proper place.
  • Ability to keep appropriate records.
  • Maintains assigned money bag, issues and closes banks to café, concessions, and bars.
  • May attend weekly production, staff, and food & beverage meetings.
  • Must have proficient computer skills. Must be able to use or learn Outlook email, Micros POS, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and ADP Scheduler.
  • Act as Food & Beverage Manager on duty in absence of Banquet Manager & Director of Food & Beverage.
  • Assists in bar operations.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors, subordinates and peers.
  • Ability to monitor all details for banquet events.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships.
  • Must be able to lead a staff of 20+ people.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must have current food handlers permit or the ability to attain one.
  • Experience in catering and banquets is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to speak clearly so that listeners may understand.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach out with the body, arms and/or legs.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry heavy objects.
  • Customer Service training: general knowledge of providing special services to customers based on their needs.
  • General knowledge and understanding of human resources practices and procedures.
  • Experience with teaching methods involved in learning and instructing others.
  • Must have effective communication skills.
  • Must be self-confident and driven.
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
