THE OPPORTUNITY
This person will report directly to the Director of Engineering and supports the initial energization, testing, troubleshooting, and qualification of instrumentation and automation systems in industrial facilities. This hands-on technical role ensures proper installation, wiring, and functionality of control systems while working closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams. In the role of I&C Specialist, you will be joining a world-class Engineering team that is delivering innovative solutions to
tough problems. This position is fully onsite and will work from our Riverside office location in Chattanooga, TN. Currently, the working hours for this role are day shift from Monday to Friday. Please note that as our company evolves, working arrangements, locations, and hours may change to meet business needs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Perform I/O verification and loop checks on instruments of various technology
• Complete documentation of results of I/O verification and loop check
• Support commissioning, operation, and maintenance of complex automation equipment and analyzers
• Document deviation of installation of instruments from engineering documents
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and/or repair various devices and control loops (pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, analog, and digital devices involving but not limited to the measurement of temperature, level, pressure, and flow)
• Recommend solutions to problems while progressing issues through to completion
• Generate instrument RFI’s as necessary in the execution of commissioning activities
• Execute commissioning testing activities in alignment with available testing criteria, engineering deliverables, testing equipment, and materials
• Troubleshoots, disassembles, and repairs defective electrical equipment or systems
• Other duties as assigned
WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING
• Ability to read and interpret loop diagrams, location plans, data sheets, electrical schematics, single line drawings, P&ID’s, and mechanical drawings
• A hands-on troubleshooter with experience in PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, or industrial automation systems, including wiring, setup, and basic programming support
• Proficient in computer systems and software programs utilized in testing equipment
• Detail-oriented and able to follow structured procedures, protocols, and documentation requirements in a regulated environment
• General knowledge of wireless process instrumentation and wireless networks
• General knowledge of motor control and protective relays
• Comfortable working in field environments, including industrial facilities, control rooms, and equipment enclosures, while adhering to safety and compliance standards
• Willing to work extended hours as needed during commissioning phases
To be considered for this role, candidatesmust have the following:
• Minimum 4+ years of verifiable experience in installation, maintenance, and loop check of industrial process instrumentation
• A certificate of completion of instrument technology courses from a recognized college or trade school for instrumentation, or equivalent
And it would be extra awesome, if you also have:
• Certificate in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or Instrumentation (e.g., NCCER, ISA CCST, or equivalent)
• Previous experience with Ignition SCADA systems, TrakSys (Manufacturing Operations Management Software), Rockwell Logix5000, Siemens Tia Portal, Unitronics, industrial networking, or fieldbus protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, I/O-Link Devices)
• Familiarity with control panel design, wiring standards, and NEC/NFPA 70E electrical safety regulations, process instrumentation, automation logic, and commissioning new equipment
• Experience in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Arc Flash safety
• Hands-on experience with PLC/DCS programming or troubleshooting
