This unique national role offers the opportunity to lead on electrical assurance, safety, and statutory compliance across a diverse portfolio of assets and teams. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will ensure compliance with British and European standards, statutory legislation, and the Environment Agency’s (EA) codes of practice, while driving best practices across the organisation.
You will act as the electrical lead and key contact for specific national stakeholders, collaborating closely with the EA’s network of Senior Engineers to deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions. A solution-focused mindset is critical to addressing challenges effectively and driving continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Assuring staff technical competence through authorisation processes and identifying areas for development.
• Overseeing and assuring electrical systems, maintenance practices, and associated safety documentation to ensure robust processes for safe systems of work and compliance.
• Providing technical advice on the design, installation, improvement, and investment planning of MEICA equipment to ensure alignment with standards and statutory requirements.
• Ensuring contractors meet electrical safety and compliance standards through robust assessment and assurance processes.
Incident response remains a top priority for the EA. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

This national team specialises in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation (MEICA) engineering, providing technical assurance and leadership across the department.
While geographically dispersed, the team fosters a strong collaborative culture, working closely within the team and across the business, supported by Supra Area MEICA Teams. Experience/skills required · Comprehensive knowledge of electrical statutory legislation, British and European standards, and their application in ensuring health, safety, and compliance.
· Proven experience as a Subject Matter Expert in electrical engineering, providing technical advice
