POSITION PURPOSE

The Certified Field Technician is responsible for conducting energy audits to evaluate energy usage at client properties and for informing and educating property owners on how to save energy.


  

Responsibilities for Combined Rater Field Inspector and Air Sealer Role

The combined role of Rater Field Inspector and Air Sealer involves ensuring compliance with energy efficiency standards, performing building science evaluations, and directly implementing energy-saving measures. Key responsibilities include:

Inspection and Testing

  1. Conduct thorough inspections of residential properties to evaluate the condition of insulation, lighting, HVAC systems, and other energy-consuming appliances.
  2. Perform energy efficiency inspections, including blower door tests, duct blaster testing, and infrared scanning, to assess building performance.
  3. Verify compliance with energy code requirements, such as insulation levels, air sealing, and mechanical system installations.

Energy Audits and Recommendations

  1. Identify and prioritize energy-saving measures and recommend energy-efficient technologies or alternative energy sources.
  2. Prepare job specification sheets for home energy improvements based on audit results.
  3. Educate clients, tenants, and property personnel about energy efficiency, inspection processes, and the benefits of recommended improvements.

Direct Installation and Implementation

  1. Install energy-saving products, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), showerheads, aerators, and other items designed to increase energy efficiency and support sustainable living.

Data Collection and Reporting

  1. Accurately document inspection results, testing data, and products installed using company software and reporting tools.
  2. Track and report on inspection procedures, audit results, miles traveled, hours worked, and any installed equipment.

Client Interaction and Education

  1. Interact with clients, tenants, and property personnel to address energy issues, answer questions, and provide guidance on sustainable energy practices.
  2. Communicate findings and recommendations to builders, contractors, and supervisors.

Equipment Management

  1. Maintain inspection and installation equipment, including calibration, repairs, and ensuring proper functionality.
  2. Ensure all tools, PPE, and supplies are available and in good condition for daily use.

Safety and Compliance

  1. Adhere to all company safety protocols and industry safety standards on job sites.
  2. Ensure  compliance with state, local, and federal regulations regarding energy inspections and installations.

Professional Development

  1. Stay updated on changes to building codes, energy standards, and inspection techniques.
  2. Pursue and maintain relevant certifications (e.g., HERS Rater, RESNET, or BPI certifications) to enhance expertise and qualifications.

Team Collaboration and Support

  1. Coordinate with schedulers and management to optimize inspection routes and workloads.
  2. Assist with overflow inspections, quality assurance reviews, and training of new team members.
  3. Share best practices with the team and contribute to process improvements.
