Job Title: Electrical Estimator
Location: Sycamore, IL & surrounding counties. 
Pay: up to $120K (DOE) + Bonuses & Commissions 
Employment Type: Full-Time permanent 

 

Position Summary:

Swedberg Electric is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Electrical Estimator with 2–3+ years of commercial estimating experience to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial electrical construction projects while supporting preconstruction efforts and maintaining strong relationships with general contractors, vendors, and project managers.

The ideal candidate is organized, technically proficient, and capable of managing multiple bids in a fast-paced environment while upholding the company’s commitment to quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial electrical projects including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop complete project scopes.
• Perform quantity takeoffs using estimating software and digital plan platforms.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
• Collaborate with project managers and leadership to ensure smooth turnover from estimating to operations.
• Maintain and update estimating databases, labor units, and historical cost data.
• Track bid results and analyze performance to improve future estimates.
• Ensure all estimates align with company standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.

 

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2–3 years of commercial electrical estimating experience required.
• Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems, materials, and installation methods.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Spectrum or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of NEC codes and commercial construction practices.
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional field experience in commercial electrical construction.
• Experience with design-build or negotiated projects.
• Familiarity with digital takeoff platforms such as Bluebeam or PlanSwift.
• Associate’s degree or technical training in Electrical Construction, Engineering Technology, or related field.
