Job Summary
We're looking for a Sr. Principal DSP Engineer to join our Signal Solutions team in Frederick, MD. In this role, you’ll design, develop, analyze, verify, and validate algorithms (MATLAB, CUDA, etc. based) for digital electronic products and subsystems covering a wide range of applications including signal and radar processing, machine learning, network communications, and electronic warfare. This position has the option of being either fully onsite in our Frederick facility or partly remote (onsite Tues-Thurs), plus we work a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off). Must live within commuting distance of the facility regardless of choice
Job Responsibilities
- Create signal processing and machine learning models to facilitate faster and more accurate data analysis
- Research and develop advanced machine learning algorithms and techniques for various applications across DRS’ Signal Solutions LoB
- Develop MATLAB/Octave system models for performance prediction of co-channel radio direction finding (DF)
- Develop tools in MATLAB/Octave for generating system calibration tables
- Develop tools in MATLAB/Octave for wideband RF cascade analysis, sensitivity analysis, dynamic range analysis, and phase coherency
- Review and analyze test data for phase coherency using cross-correlation techniques
- Responsible for driving technology and completion of activity on time and budget
- Function in a project leadership role and may provide direction to junior level employees. Mentor and coach the work of others as assigned, assuring completion of tasks per plan
- Analyze product/stakeholder specifications and requirements, and develop designs and approaches to best support them within time and cost constraints
- Help drive program/project design to cost and other DFx requirements
- Plan and lead root cause analysis for complex issues, conduct experimental tests, evaluate results to formulate and implement solutions to issues and support regaining or attaining customer partner status
- Actively support Business Development and Program Management in pursuit of new business by developing and presenting new concepts, technologies, and/or applications. Participate in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals
- Review customer specifications and requirements, decompose system requirements and SOWs into signal processing configuration item (CI) requirements by using formal methodologies/tools to capture and track requirements. Work with other IPT (Integrated Product Team) members to ensure product/system meets operational requirements
- Develop trusted engineering contacts with the customer, understanding the customer's gaps/deficiencies in the process and providing targeted innovative solutions that close those gaps.
- Responsible and accountable for design technical planning, scheduling support, cost analysis, risk analysis and successful execution of small to medium programs or major subsystems of a larger program containing substantial signal processing and algorithm development content
- Analyze designs as necessary. Responsible for architecting the technical solution, partitioning the solution into components and providing guidance and oversight to multiple development teams to ensure the technologies inter-operate or connect to each other appropriately
- Apply a strong understanding of the organization’s defined digital design processes throughout the lifecycle of a program or project. Regularly participate in the improvement of the organization’s digital design and other processes
- Highly skilled at communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions. Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience focused in Digital Signal Processing, Firmware Design, and/or Algorithm Development
Preferred Qualification
- Expertise in RF signal processing theories such as over/under sampling, FIRs, DDCs, DUCs, and FFTs.
