Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Process Development Engineering Intern will support new extrusion processes and cable product development. While specific knowledge of fiber optic cable processes is helpful, it is not required. The intern will apply engineering expertise to assist with new product and process development, establish tooling and equipment requirements, and help develop machine set points for optimal manufacturing conditions.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in project teams led by the Project Lead and/or Process Engineer, focusing on developing new products, processes, and measurement systems to solve customer problems and create intellectual property.
- Assist in the design and development of new or modified equipment to optimize continuous manufacturing processes.
- Conduct research, propose experiments, and analyze data to enhance understanding of products and processes.
- Collect, interpret, and communicate results in technical reports and presentations.
- Balance hands-on work with technical leadership activities.
- Collaborate with research and manufacturing teams throughout the product development cycle.
- Perform risk assessments of equipment and processes, considering safety, environmental impact, and customer field issues.

- Ability to execute project assignments in a team-based environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills using structured techniques.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Clear and effective communication of technical ideas.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills in a global work environment; proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
Education & Experience
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent degree program.
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
- Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with computer-aided design for mechanical drawings.
- Background in continuous process design and development.<
