Job Description
Reports To: Special Education Program Specialist (or designee)
FLSA Status: Exempt
School Classification: Certificated
Pay Range: Range 7: ($50.10/hr -$62.74/hr)
Work Schedule: 190 days/11 months
Location: Onsite and Remote Office
Position Summary: The special education academic assessor completes a thorough initial evaluation, additional assessments, and eligibility evaluations within the schools, state, and federal guidelines and develops legally compliant assessment reports and IEPs. Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with all other school personnel and parents while maintaining confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedules testing sessions with families ensuring all school, state, and federal guidelines are met
- Completes thorough initial evaluations, additional assessments, and reevaluations in alignment with state and federal guidelines as well as department guidelines, and develops legally compliant IEPs and assessment reports
- Attends and participates in IEP and other assigned meetings and conferences; collaborates with staff and administrators in the formulation, development, and implementation of IEPs, behavior plans, and related services, and goals and objectives
- Collaborates with Special Education case managers throughout the IEP development process and offers recommendations, when applicable, related to goals and/or services based on assessment results
- Consults and works collaboratively with all school personnel, parents, and other agencies.
- Abilities to service students at a public location and/or in-home, if necessary
Other Duties:
- Responds to non-urgent communication within 24 school hours and urgent communication within two school hours
- Resolves escalated employee, parent, and student issues in alignment with core values and ensuring compliance with the school’s Uniform Complaint Policy; the school’s Uniform Technology Policy; and the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education & Experience:
- A valid, current, and appropriate California state Mild/Moderate Education Specialist or Moderate/Severe credential. A copy of the teaching credential is to be provided and kept current.
- Two years of successful teaching experience in special education preferred
Other Qualifications:
- State and federal fingerprint clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Ed. Code 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and the Human Resources Manager notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance.
- Proof of a clear TB Tine test or signed Certificate of Completion dated within the last 60 days (Ed. Code 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four years
- Hold and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, proof of automobile insurance, and full time use of a dependable automobile that is insured pursuant to California regulations.
