Position Summary
The Telecommunications Team Lead provides technical services for STARS digital video upgrade, determines if the Site POC can provide pictures of the fiber transceiver and the video splitter in the cab. Will assist in determining what fiber connectors are needed. Reports to the Infrastructure Manager and interfaces with Government site management personnel. Installs, maintains, and repairs fixed or mobile communications-electronic equipment, including air traffic control, weather, radar systems, related radar operator training devices, aircraft identification equipment, remoting systems, computerized processors, and communications subsystems. Uses electronic test equipment to ensure proper installation of electronic systems. Responsible for planning and scheduling equipment installation Including analog and digital UHF/VHF radio systems, ETVS, FDIO, DVRS/DALR, STARS, AFAS, ILS, VOR, TACAN, UHF/VHF antennas and supporting copper/fiber infrastructures. Individual must be able to pass a security background check to be retained in this position. Position requires travel approximately 60% of the year to US and overseas locations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluates and reconfigures the STARS LT1/RT1 rack
- Terminates with ST Dielectric armor cable 6 EA fiber
- Assigns and labels fiber appropriately to avoid confusion
- Preforms inventory of GFE Digital Video kit
- Assists site in powering down the L1/RT1 rack
- Relocates the existing CPU and MSA and associated cabling up the existing rack
- Installs the associated cabling to the new CPU, MSA, a few TMTs,
- Installs new fiber modules in existing Emcore chassis and associated fibers.
- All cabling and new equipment will be GFE
- MSA DEC faceplate will be re-utilized
- Provide and install fiber optic cable to connect STARS LT1/RT1 to audio, video, and serial devices
- Installs GFE fiber from video splitter to Each Tower Display monitor
- Provides/installs small amount of 1” plenum innerduct for the TDM fiber install
- Install GFE fiber from video splitter to Supplemental Display Monitor
- Provides/installs small amount of 1” plenum innerduct for the SDM fiber install
- Installs GFE Emcore fiber Transceiver and modules adjacent to existing fiber transceivers in the cab under the console.
- Installs GFE cable from new Emcore fiber module to two EA Keyboard and trackball
- Installs GFE cable from new Emcore Fiber module to speaker
- Test audio, video, and serial (keyboard) connectivity via the newly installed fiber
- Utilizes spare DEC to test
- Utilizes existing Maintenance Laptop with assistance of site personnel
- May perform other tasks as deemed necessary
- Interprets inspection findings, and determines adequacy of corrective actions
- Develops and enforces safety standards and practices for electronic installation activities
- Coordinates with appropriate agencies to ensure systems support requirements during project implementation
- Assists with site/equipment surveys and establishes equipment systems interface and interconnects system with communications infrastructure; manages installation of communications-electronics and ancillary support equipment; performs operational and/or acceptance inspections
- Operates/performs operator maintenance on tools, test equipment, auxiliary equipment, and vehicles
- Enforces safety/security standards for site visit activities
- Provides Daily Status Reports
- Provides pictures of installation
- Travel as needed to different bases that are either CONUS or OCONUS
- Associates in Electronics or Communications Systems - Community College of the Air Force desirable
- US Air Force Communications Electronics Technical Training School - highly desirable
- Knowledge of electronic principles and digital techniques, including transistors and solid-state component theory that applies to electronic systems; wiring diagrams, circuit diagrams, schematic diagrams and technical orders.

Education & Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years’ experience required
- Prior experience with Department of Defense radio/antenna communications systems highly desirable; in particular experience with the airfield systems equipment suites
- National Security background investigation required, Secret
Skill & Certification Requirements
- STARS LT1/RT1 to audio, video, and serial devices
- Heavy lifting of 40-80 lbs.
