About the role

Description

Prevailance is seeking an experienced, mission-focused professional to be a Engineering Damage Control Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet (CNSL) INSURV Readiness Assistance Team (IRAT).


CNSL and the future Commander Naval Surface Groups (CNSG) require teams of seasoned Subject Matter Experts (SME) to provide surface ship Commanding Officers and their crews with assistance in preparing for assessments, examinations, and assist with the preparation / execution of TYCOM Readiness Evaluations IAW Surface Force Training and Readiness Manual (SFTRM).


The IRAT consists of subject matter experts (SME) in Propulsion (MP) systems to include Marine Gas Turbines and Diesel Engines, Auxiliaries (AX), Electrical (EL), Damage Control (DC), Deck/Aviation (DK, AV), C5I Systems (CC, IS), Aegis (AW), Weapons (WP) Systems, Supply/Habitability (SP,HB).


The SME shall be able to independently work on or lead a team of shipboard technicians in conducting maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing and/or the testing &operation of shipboard damage control and firefighting systems. 


Performance will take place primarily at Government facilities and onboard ships. CONUS / OCONUS Travel will be required up to 35% of the time.

Requirements

  • 25 years of U.S. Navy experience as an Engineering rate specialist
  • Graduate of appropriate engineering rate U.S. Navy “A” and “C” schools
  • Experience with the operation, maintenance, and assessment of all major damage control systems (Breathing Air, AFFF, Halon/Water Mist, Main/Secondary Drainage, Ballast/Deballast) on board Cruisers, Destroyers (CRUDES)and Amphibious surface ships 
  • Senior Chief and Master Chief Petty Officers must have Senior Enlisted Damage Control Program and Training Specialist and Chemical, Biological, & Radiological Defense Operations and Training Specialist
  • Evidence of experience (i.e. AQD, letters of designation, Navy FitReps, Evaluations, Certification Letters, Course Completion certificates, FTLTMPS) within the past three (3) years
  • Contractors that have been performing duties conducting material readiness assessments training, mentoring, and evaluating shipboard damage control and firefighting systems, that meet all the specific qualification criteria, may be evaluated for candidacy as well

Strongly Desired

  • Limited Duty Officer or Chief Warrant Officer
  • Experience as an Inspector for the U.S. Navy Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV)
  • Experience as an inspector at the Afloat Training Group or TYCOM staff focusing on Pre-INSURV preparations
  • Experience on Major Command Staff (DESRON, ESG, PHIBRON) or Fleet/TYCOM Staff

Clearance

Must possess or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance
