About the role

Under the direction of the Director, Data and Development Services, the Senior Database Administrator will be maintaining current database management systems, troubleshooting issues, designing new databases, ensuring database availability, ensuring data integrity, implementing database changes, managing security, and providing 24/7 on-call support. The primary role is to provide strategic enterprise direction for database implementations including performance and load balancing. This role will assist the Sr. Data Engineer to support and administer the enterprise Data Warehouse (DW), including expansion to new business units and operational processes. They will assist the resource managers across the Product Innovation group with internal development applications and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production, development and staging Database Management Systems.

2. Train and guide other database administrators (II and I.).  Manages Database Administrator resources assigning tasks and projects to other DBAs accordingly.

3. Monitors database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implements efficiency improvements. Optimizes and allocates physical data storage for database systems.

4. Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.

5. Make decisions and recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards to support procurement and development efforts. Creates models for new database development and changes to existing ones.

6. Responds to and resolves database access, performance and other general issues.

7. Design, develops, and implements high availability and redundant systems; policies and procedures for disaster recovery, and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets. Participates in establishing appropriate end-user database access control levels.

8. Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use. Performs database transactions and security audits.

9. Oversees technical activities of other Database Administrator(s) within the organization. Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems required.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of day-to day database technical support experience required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in large database environments including the Teradata highly preferred.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.

  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers,

  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.

  • Project management experience.

  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Hands-on experience with advanced MS SQL Server management is required.

  • Advanced understanding of database virtualization, performance, and load balancing is required.

  • Hands-on development experience with SSIS, writing stored procedures, functions and views preferred.

  • Relevant experience with front end Reporting Software and Visualization Tools such as SSRS, SAS, Tableau, etc preferred.

  • Employee must have experience demonstrating the utmost discretion and confidentiality, as they will have access to private information.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
