About the role

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.


The PCBA Quality Engineer will serve to define quality requirements, deploy & qualify processes, and verify production methods in order to deliver aerospace grade quality at unprecedented scale to support Kuiper's mission. The PCBA Quality Engineer will be a Subject Matter Expert in internal PCBA quality activities, and have a background in aerospace grade PCBA special processes, including SMT, polymerics, soldering methodologies, functional test and acceptance testing methods, rework/repair acceptability criteria, inspection technology and qualification, and nonconformance management. The ideal candidate will use Six Sigma methodologies to lead large scale projects that solve the ambiguous and schedule driven challenges of Project Kuiper, bringing in multiple cross-functional teams to gain alignment on project deliverables, and seek to bring high performing solutions to the production system.


Key job responsibilities
  • Develop and lead Kuiper Quality management activities, including process definition and validation for PCBA quality activities, part and process qualification, receiving inspection plans, in-process inspection capabilities, and metrics development around the processes.
  • Lead MRB discussions with Responsible Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and other stakeholders to determine product dispositions.
  • Lead the Development and Launch of multiple aspects of the Quality Management System with the Supplier Quality team for Project Kuiper
  • Lead 6-Sigma projects within Project Kuiper as a certified 6-Sigma Black Belt
  • Facilitate and actively lead root cause corrective action activities throughout the Project Kuiper Production System, especially for PCBA and LRU failures.
  • Work directly with Receiving Inspection, Supplier Quality, and Engineering teams to Develop and Qualify inspection, monitoring, and verification activities/processes for the Kuiper Production System.
  • Represent the Manufacturing Quality Team in cross-functional initiatives.
  • Be a subject matter expert in PCBA and LRU quality assurance for the Kuiper Production System.
  • Work closely with Global Process Owners to ensure the Kuiper ERP and MES systems and business process meet and support Quality System requirements.





A day in the life
  • Participate in daily defect resolution as a member of the MRB.
  • Investigates Production System issues to reduce defect rates and drive root cause corrective actions
  • Implements the Kuiper Quality System through process development and launch mechanisms.
  • Partners with cross-functional groups to develop and qualify internal production processes
  • Serves as an expert to promote quality control for PCBAs and LRUs.
  • Takes ownership to identify, develop, and qualify automation technologies to increase the efficiency of business and quality processes.
  • Leads Six Sigma efforts for large scale Kuiper Production issues.

Basic Qualifications


  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Export Control Requirement:
  • Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
