The Revenue Accounting team acts as a strategic partner to Product, Growth, Legal, Deal Desk, and GTM teams. We evaluate the revenue impact of new product offerings, self-serve monetization models, and complex enterprise contracts. We ensure compliance with ASC 606 while enabling rapid growth, automation, and operational excellence. As trusted advisors, we shape product and contract design, build revenue recognition policies, and refine systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and audit readiness.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Head of Global Revenue Accounting to lead and scale our core Revenue accounting, Revenue technical accounting, Revenue operations (billing and collections), deal desk and revenue systems as we continue our rapid growth. This leader will oversee day-to-day revenue accounting operations, ensure strong internal controls, and drive process excellence across the organization. You will partner cross-functionally with Strategic Finance, Tax, Legal, and Finance Systems teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting while continuously improving efficiency.

This role will report to the VP, Global Controller and manage a high velocity and high growth Revenue team. You will be a key player in driving the financial success of the organization by building and sustaining a world-class finance team.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of global revenue accounting operations, including revenue accounting, technical revenue, billing/collections, and revenue systems.

• Manage global monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

• Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and compliance frameworks.

• Drive automation initiatives and system enhancements in partnership with Business Systems and Engineering.

• Mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering career growth and engagement.

• Oversee revenue-related balance sheet processes and support team members’ professional advancement.

• Partner cross-functionally to support new and existing products, ensuring scalable accounting processes and risk mitigation.

• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes using AI and lead system implementations to streamline accounting and reporting.

• Manage relationships with external auditors, outsourced accountants, and strategic partners.

• Collaborate with OpenAI Finance to analyze financial performance, provide recommendations to leadership, and inform key business decisions.Own and manage the global revenue accounting operations, including revenue accounting, technical revenue, revenue operations (billing and collections) and revenue systems.

• Lead design and execution of internal controls and compliance frameworks

In this role, you will:

• Oversee accounting teams covering balance sheet and revenue, and cultivate opportunities for team members’ development and advancement

• Support new and existing research and products by working cross-functionally to manage risk, and build and maintain scalable accounting processes

• Identify opportunities for automation of manual processes using AI, and lead system implementations to streamline accounting and reporting processes

• Manage key service provider relationships with auditors, outsourced accountants, and strategic partners

• Work with broader OpenAI Finance to analyze financial performance, provide recommendations to senior leadership for improvement, and support for key decision making
