Job Description
As a founding member of the TBD Foundational Engineering team, you will build systems to help minimize risk to our Lightning services. You will be at the forefront of developing internal controls that will not only be leveraged by TBD, but potentially other Block business units.
In this role, you will work closely with our compliance, legal, and product engineering teams to ensure TBD meets compliance standards within current and future markets, enabling us to scale quickly and efficiently.
You will:
- Design and build the first systems to help TBD act quickly on risks to our Lightning routing node
- Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders (both technical and non-technical) to gather and refine requirements
- Help set a strong technical foundation and team culture
- Be a thoughtful partner in shaping future team initiatives and direction
Qualifications
You have:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- A desire or experience working with Bitcoin, Lightning, or other crypto technologies
- Experience building high quality products end to end - from technical design, implementation, testing, and launch
- An ability to navigate ambiguity and reach a clear understanding of problems affecting our users
- Natural curiosity and desire to grow both yourself and all aspects of the team
Technologies we use and teach:
- Rust, Kotlin, TypeScript (to name a few)
- Datastores of all kinds (such as MySQL, DynamoDB, data warehouses)
- Cloud based tools (such as AWS, Datadog)

Additional Information
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a commission plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
