This position provides engineering system management and insight for the Human Landing System (HLS) program’s intra-vehicular (IVA) space suits (i.e., Launch/Entry/Abort type suits) for NASA’s Spacesuit and Crew Survival Systems Branch at Johnson Space Center.  This role supports the program during all hardware life-cycle phases. 

This is a full time, hybrid position located at the Johnson Space Center, Houston TX. This is a hybrid work model requiring 3-4 days onsite, 1-2 days telework.

What You’ll Be Doing  

• Assist the HLS Crew Compartment (CrewCo) IVA Suit Discipline Lead (DL) in providing HLS Program insight to contractor development, certification, and verification activities for the IVA Suit discipline for HLS contracts. 
• Review and provide technical feedback on contractor technical products for IVA Suits including but not limited to Data Requirements Documents (DRDs), Hazard Reports, Design Data Books (DDBs), Integrated Systems Performance Analyses (ISPAs), and Detailed Verification Objectives (DVOs). 
• Coordinate with the contractor to track and assess IVA Suit subsystem development status, schedule, and open work to meet critical HLS Program milestones. 
• Identify risks that impact IVA Suit system success as a part of overall program success and develop mitigation options for suit system risks as part of the IVA Suits Discipline Leadership and Insight effort; track and manage IVA Suit actions, risks, and concerns. 
• Collaborate with IVA suit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in other HLS offices including Human Health and Performance (HH&P) and Lander Flight Operations (LFO) as well as HLS Technical Authorities (TAs) for review of contractor performance and quality of technical products. 
• Collaborate with other HLS DLs including but not limited to Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) DL, Flight Crew Equipment (FCE) DL, Human Systems Integration (HSI) DL and Lander Flight Operations (LFO) for cross-discipline insight integration activities and reviews. 
• Review and provide technical feedback on Change Requests to HLS Program and contractor documentation deliverables. 
• Support the CrewCo Office and HLS Program meetings, joint NASA and contractor technical forums, and contractor subsystem and system design reviews. 
• Develop technical decisional or informational packages and present to HLS Program forums and/or boards as required. 
• Travel to support contractor verification activities and milestone reviews, as required. 

What You Need To Be Successful 

Minimum Requirements:  

• Bachelor’s degree from an in applicable STEM area  
• 6+ years overall engineering or technical program/project management experience  
• Knowledge of system engineering principles and practices, spaceflight hardware design and certification, and system management 
• Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
