Position Overview

This position is accountable for the supervision of all field activities involved in the construction of highly complex or multiple projects within District 9.

Essential Functions

• Provides adequate engineering supervision to contractors involved in highly complex construction projects in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Provides engineering solutions to design problems and unique conditions involving new construction techniques.
• Coordinates multi-job projects so they adhere to schedules.
• Resolves complaints from private citizens and local governmental agencies regarding project inconveniences.
• Ensures usage of proper safety and traffic controls by contractors.
• Maintains project records.
• Supervises and trains subordinate personnel in accordance with departmental policies and sound engineering practices.
• Ensures compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
• Four years of experience in civil engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as it relates to roadway pavements, drainage structures, concrete structures, and modern survey practices.
• Knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to design, construction, and maintenance of public works.
• Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
