WSP is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer for their Irvine, California office. The following locations will also be considered: Los Angeles, CA. This opportunity involves being part of our deeply experienced Healthcare Team in Southern California.

Your Impact

Technical

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.    
• Actively communicate in a team environment.
• Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of fundamental components identified in design requirements, as well as field equipment applications and operations.
• Apply intermediate level engineering techniques in development of drawings and specifications from schematic design, design development, and construction document phases of a project.  Drawings and specifications to include equipment schedules, detailed floor plans, enlarged equipment plans, system riser diagrams, control diagrams and Title 24 compliance.
• Perform professional mechanical engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, and usage; and installing mechanical equipment and distribution systems to conform with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
• Perform routine engineering functions and provide intermediate-level technical assistance on various design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications. 
• Design mechanical systems related to automatic temperature control, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water) for new and existing facilities with guidance from senior engineers.  
• Design specialized laminar air flow, filtration, and pressurization systems for hospital and laboratory environments with guidance from senior engineers.
• Perform routine engineering tasks in the construction administration phase of a project. These tasks include reviewing construction submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing on-site field observations.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. 
• Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
• Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
