  Job Summary

The Surgery Center Porter plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the surgical environment by providing essential support to medical staff and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe facility. This position involves the transportation of patients, equipment, and supplies, as well as assisting in the overall readiness of the surgery center.  This is a part-time position offering up to 29 hours per week.


Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Transportation: Safely transport patients to and from surgical rooms,      recovery areas, and other departments, ensuring comfort and security.
  • Equipment Management: Assist in the movement and preparation of surgical      equipment and supplies, including cleaning and sterilization as needed.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas within      the surgery center, including waiting rooms, hallways, and surgical      suites, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Assistance to Staff: Support nursing and surgical teams with tasks such as      setting up operating rooms and restocking supplies.
  • Emergency Response: Be familiar with emergency protocols and assist in      maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Documentation:  Accurately document patient transport and any incidents that occur during      shifts.

Qualifications

  • Education:  High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in healthcare or      relevant fields preferred.
  • Experience:  Previous experience in a healthcare setting or as a porter preferred but      not required.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent  communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Basic understanding of medical terminology is a plus.

  • Ability to lift and transport patients and equipment safely.
  • Stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
  • Perform physical tasks in various environments (e.g., operating rooms, recovery      areas).

Work Environment

The Surgery Center Porter will work in a healthcare setting, interacting with patients, medical staff, and visitors. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.
