About the role

The Regional Philanthropy Officer plays a key role in advancing our mission by building, managing, and growing a robust portfolio of major gift (five-figure and above) donors. This position is responsible for cultivating strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners through strategic engagement, personalized stewardship, and meaningful solicitation.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong record of closing major gifts, who takes initiative, builds meaningful relationships, and delivers an exceptional donor experience that inspires greater philanthropic investment. This role involves identifying giving opportunities, developing compelling cases for support, and guiding donors through their philanthropic journey with care and professionalism.

This position oversees a ten-state territory across the Southern United States, requiring strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to prioritize effectively in a regional environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Designs and implements a major gift program to generate contributions for Boys Town.

  • Develops a caseload of active major gift prospects; sets and carries out strategies for solicitation of those prospects.

  • Achieves annual fundraising and activity goals between $250,000 and $1,000,000+ in new commitments.

  • Initiates contacts with potential donors.

  • Participates in the creation and implementation of strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and closure.

  • Determines whether an individual is capable of making a major gift or a special gift and devises appropriate strategies for solicitation and closure.

  • Determines cultivation time committed versus expected gift response, includes others who need to be involved in the relationship with the prospective donor, and decides the most effective and productive use of travel time.

  • Participates in the long-range planning for the portfolio managed.

  • Maintains files and records on prospects and donors on approved donor software.

  • Records all activities and initiatives in Donor Database according to Boys Town policy.

  • Manages and meets budgetary objectives in each calendar/fiscal year and is part of the budget process identifying funding for strategic goals and objectives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills.

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization and with external contacts in an articulate, professional manner.

  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and multi-task while maintaining quality standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management or related field required.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising or related field required.

  • Ability to travel, often overnight, within assigned geographic area 8-10 times per year required.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record required.

  • Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • Ability to provide own transportation to complete travel requirements of job required.

  • Meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local law requirements required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience managing a major gift portfolio and professional accreditation is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks.  Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
