About the role

Everyone is welcome at Handshake. We know diverse teams build better products and we are committed to creating an inclusive culture built on a foundation of respect for all individuals. We strongly encourage candidates from non-traditional backgrounds, historically marginalized or underrepresented groups to apply.

The Role

We believe that talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not. While we have started to chip away at this problem, the real work is ahead of us.

Specifically, Handshake is in the early stages of a transition from a transactional job board for internships and 1st time jobs to a talent focused social network. If we get this right, it will be transformation for how Gen Z prepares for and enters the workforce as well as how employers think about their brand and source the next generation of talent.

We are looking for a Manager, Growth Analytics to join our Business Operations team which is tasked with developing a clear-eyed view of business health and how we power growth for all three sides of our marketplace – students, employers, and universities.

Specifically, this role will focus on building the analytics backbone that powers BizOps insights and recommendations, starting with understanding the revenue impact of our Employer product investments, key types of engagements, and other monetization levers such as pricing.

The Biz Ops team sits within the Finance team to 1) translate student & employer engagement, product actions, and revenue levers, to short and long term financial impact and 2) to provide the cross functional context and structure necessary to allocate resources appropriately (i.e. between sales and product led growth opportunities).

What We Are Looking For

Our preferred candidate is familiar with SaaS/marketplace businesses and associated growth strategies. They should be curious about what drives growth and bring the requisite technical chops to mine our data for answers. Often this person will be bringing structure and clarity to important but still-developing product surface areas – this will require tenacity in the face of ambiguity. Importantly, they should be willing to learn – and learn again – and again – as our understanding of the marketplace and strategy evolve during this critical phase.

Our ideal candidate is looking to join a small (but mighty) business operations team to flex their analytical skills and develop their strategic thinking and influence. It’s fun building a business – and we have the opportunity to build a big one with meaningful impact.

Specifically, candidates should have proven experience in:

  • Technical Analytics: SQL fluency and data acumen in still-developing big data environments (i.e. ability to spot nuances / discrepancies and reconciliation of data accuracy). Experience creating dashboards and visualizations in tools such as Looker, Tableau, etc. is a must. Salesforce, R, Python experience a plus.
  • Data Informed Decision Making: Proven experience in using data to support both product and overall business investment decisions, preferably working directly with business leaders and wider product teams. Including the ability to translate data into key insights for leadership through presentations or memos.
  • Problem-solving in ambiguity: Ability to break down ambiguous business problems into its components, in a logical and comprehensive manner, as well as to own and drive projects to completion with sometimes minimal guidance.
  • Driving impact cross-functionally: self-driven, able to build collaborative stakeholders relationships and able to prioritize the most impactful work

Compensation range

  • $120,000 - $140,000

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
