About the role

Summary

Save the Children seeks an experienced leader who can guide corporate partners, prospects and global leaders within the Save the Children movement, to identify and implement new ways to engage with the private sector. Duties require in-depth knowledge and experience of how large companies address regulatory environments, the ability to lead senior leaders from the private sector in high-level conversations, and the capacity to coalesce diverse perspectives into actionable opportunities for Save the Children and the communities we serve. They must also serve as a resource for colleagues with less experience, upskilling them to understand their approach to these challenges.

This is a temporary position. Full time through October 31, 2024, and part-time (20 hours/week) starting November 1, 2024. The position has an end date of December 31, 2024.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Guide Corporate Advisory Board work on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) – 40%

  • The European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is a significant legislative initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and responsible business practices both within the EU market and globally. The directive attempts to address the adverse impacts of corporate activities on human rights and the environment, focusing on creating a legal framework to ensure that companies operate responsibly throughout their own operations and entire supply chains.
  • CSDDD will apply to the largest EU and non-EU companies operating within the EU single market. As a result, understanding the implications for companies and what role Save the Children can play as partner in achieving some of these requirements, can position Save the Children to benefit from required corporate activities.
  • Specifically, the incumbent will guide the work of a voluntary advisory board comprising senior leaders from major corporations, including Accenture, Amazon, American Express, Baxter, BMS, Mars, Pfizer and Danaher.
  • The group aims to monitor together the final shape these regulations take across the EU; assess the impacts for large companies in different impact areas relevant to Save’s mission; and pursue actions to bring these possible interventions/offerings to life – delivering win/win propositions for companies and the kids we serve.
  • The full scope of the CAB CSDDD Sub-committee is expected to take 12-months. By the end of this temporary assignment, the incumbent will complete the early development of CSDDD compliant offerings.
  • Handover plans will include recommendations for ways to carry forward the work through completion, including upskilling a member of the CP team to continue the work past that end of this temporary assignment.

  • Lead and help land the next phase of the multi-party Ag consortium, involving major companies such as Mars, Mondelez, Barry Callebaut and Cargill. This is complex endeavor that requires seniority, know-how and the ability to negotiate across competitors to achieve a common goal.
  • Outline a feasible path forward to sustain the coalition with the right level of expertise beyond the term of this assignment.
  • Provide coverage for a senior member of the team, who is currently out on medical leave, returning October 31st. Focus will be specific to ag-related companies who are at turn-key points of renewal and opportunities such as Mondelez and Cargill.

Ensure smooth transition of responsibilities and support the growth potential of major companies as required – 20%

  • Participate in key visioning sessions with major companies, as required
  • Recommend transition plans for Corporate Advisory Board, Global Corporate Partnerships Group, and global top 10.
