The Palumbo-Donahue School of Business at Duquesne University invites applications for a tenure-track position in economics, starting in August 2026.  Sitting assistant professors or new PhDs who have teaching experience and promising research agendas are welcome to apply. Candidates with interests that intersect with corporate finance, financial planning, real estate and/or one of the School’s three research priority areas (i.e., Business Ethics and CSR, Entrepreneurial and Strategic Innovation, and Sustainable Business Practices and Markets) are especially encouraged to apply. Please note that while ABDs will be considered, the PhD must be completed by the end of the first year (i.e., by June 30, 2027). Overall, we seek a teacher-scholar committed to excellence in research, high-quality instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and collegial service to the department, school, and university. The faculty rank for this position will be Assistant Professor of Economics (for those with a PhD).  Support for faculty research and teaching is excellent.

Responsibilities

 

Teaching: Primary responsibility for undergraduate and graduate economics courses. The standard teaching load is 18 credit hours per academic year (i.e., six 3-credit classes, a 3-3 teaching load). Newly hired assistant professors receive a reduced load of 15 credit hours (a 3-2 teaching load) for each of the first three years to support research productivity and course development.

 

Research: Maintain an active, high-quality research agenda with evidence of a strong pipeline and clear potential for publication in quality peer-reviewed journals.

 

Service: Contribute to departmental, school, and university service; advise and mentor students; and engage with the broader academic and professional community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

ABD in Economics (or equivalent).

 

Evidence of effective teaching and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogy.

 

An active research agenda, including a promising job-market paper and pipeline, and the ability to contribute. to the department’s research profile.

 

Able to teach microeconomics, macroeconomics, and/or statistics.

 

A collegial and collaborative citizenship orientation committed to program development. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

PhD in Economics (or equivalent) by the start date.

 

Experience teaching required and elective courses in economics at the undergraduate level.

 

Experience with graduate teaching, online instruction and/or executive education.

 

Practitioner experience related to the candidate’s areas of primary or secondary interest.

 

Interest in or experience with interdisciplinary scholarship.

 

Publications in high-quality journals related to economics.

 

Alternately, the applicants may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
