Position Summary

The Vegetation Program Manager supports Vegetation Management operations, ensuring electric system safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance with state and federal rules. The incumbent may also serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance and education or influence leaders in the industry (PG&E, other utilities, or other decision-makers) on regulatory issues and program strategies. Works with customers and public entities to monitor and manage vegetation proximity to PG&E assets to contribute to system reliability and safety objectives.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company, in good faith, believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, particular skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision related to these factors will be made on a case-by-case basis.

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $118,000
Bay Area Maximum: $188,000
&/OR​
California Minimum: $112,000
California Maximum: $179,000

  • This job can also participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
  • This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location based on business needs. The Headquarters location is flexible within the PG&E service territory.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and oversees vegetation management program operations.
  • Works independently on highly complex issues. Applies advanced knowledge and problem-solving skills to wide-ranging issues. Integrates industry knowledge related to data into everyday business practices and decision-making.
  • Manages or directs project teams.
  • Provides direction on assigned program plan and goals.
  • Leads process development and standardization for VM programs, as well as acting as an owner and SME for assigned program.
  • Oversees in-depth quality assurance final reviews and contract drafts.
  • Works with managers and directors across lines of business to influence decisions and meet goals.
  • Communicates complex ideas to diverse audiences (PG&E, other utilities, public entities, community organizations, etc.) using a variety of media.
  • Provides guidance to lesser qualified PMs and various contractors.
  • Creates, analyzes, and presents new and complex data models to facilitate business decisions.
  • May potentially manage emergency work, for example, for severe storms, wildfires, and power shutoff events.
  • Manages assigned programs and projects that support other lines of business.
  • Reports out, provides updates and corrective actions and holds daily huddles under the Lean Management model.
  • May oversee vegetation management safety investigations and corrective action plans. 
  • Influences leaders inside and outside the department and among various local and state regulatory agencies (CPUC Fire Safety OIR, Public Resource Code Major Wood Exemption).
  • May participate in public hearings and legal proceedings as a subject matter expert.
  • Develop budget forecasts and business cases. Conduct analysis in support of identifying budget variances and solutions to address.
  • Develops new and ad-hoc reports, summarize findings, and provides recommendations.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of job-related experience.

Desired:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • ISA Arborist/Utility Specialist certification.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Exceptional knowledge of program management, project management, and all associated subspecialties.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to various levels of management.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, prioritization, and planning skills.
  • Mastery of project and program management concepts, methods, and techniques.
  • Adaptable to changing and evolving business processes. Broad expertise in business and data analysis.
