Maine State Prison in Warren, ME, is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join our team as a Deputy Warden of Operations-Programs. This position plays a critical role in fulfilling the mission of Maine Department of Corrections, ‘Making our Communities Safer by Reducing Harm through Supportive Intervention, Empowering Change, and Restoring Lives’, through the ‘Maine Model of Corrections’. The Maine Department of Corrections is committed to a new model of corrections, one promoting the safety and wellbeing of staff and residents, while also ensuring residents and community clients see fewer barriers as they meaningfully engage with rehabilitative-focused services. Our model is founded in the principles of normalization and humanization, with emphasis on destigmatization, respect, and modernization of the Department as a whole. You will oversee ongoing treatment plans and the development and implementation of risk-focused intervention treatment plans for our facility. As the Deputy Warden, you will work closely with all departments within the facility, and in the community to reduce recidivism and provide comprehensive services to residents in our care.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and support correctional programming, as well as security of operations at the facility.
- Collaborate closely with all other departments within the facility to meet the mission of restoring lives.
- Oversight and management of personnel matters, security, case management, and resident programs and services.
- Utilize programs and techniques to address barriers to successful re-entry.
- Participate in long-range planning for new programs, goals, and objectives, contributing valuable insights and expertise.
- Apply knowledge of security requirements, techniques, practices, and principles of institutional programming.
Desired Qualities and Experience:
- Able to apply knowledge of modern correctional practices to provide effective programs, services, and techniques that promote the Maine Model of Corrections, and remove barriers.
- Ability to motivate and direct large groups in a diverse environment.
- Strong communication skills encouraging the joint effort of staff and residents to identify opportunities in programming, security and affect change with a large group at a senior management level.
- Ability to interpret and enforce rules, regulations, and policies.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and analyze issues, make sound recommendations, and reach logical conclusions.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business, or Public Administration, or a related field. Eight years of progressively responsible experience in corrections and/or law enforcement or institutional/community mental health work. Four years of experience in a managerial and/or advanced administrative capacity. Related experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
