Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated and strategic professional to serve as the Deputy Director of the Office of Disease Control. This individual will be responsible for leading and overseeing multiple divisions focused on surveillance and prevention, and controlling diseases that impact the health of Illinois residents.

 

The Office of Disease Control (ODC) encompasses a wide range of public health initiatives and programs aimed at addressing infectious and communicable diseases, emerging public health threats, laboratory operations, and immunizations. The Deputy Director will play a key leadership role in planning, directing, and supervising the work of divisions within the office. These may include Infectious Disease, communicable disease surveillance and prevention, public health laboratory testing, and other programmatic areas related to disease surveillance and control.

 

Responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic policies and initiatives, overseeing operational and fiscal management, supervising senior staff, coordinating cross-divisional efforts, and serving as a representative of the Office in internal and external stakeholder engagements. This role also involves close collaboration with local, state, and federal partners to ensure a coordinated response to ongoing and emerging disease threats.
