Government Relations Director (Regional)

The Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WAMI) Government Relations Director will report to and work collaboratively with the AVP and the broader EA team to articulate and advance Seattle Children's institutional goals. In addition to their responsibility related to state issues, the Director will also support EA leadership in discrete tasks related to federal, regional, local, and other initiatives. The Director will need to work in both Olympia and Seattle; they will be expected to make frequent trips to Olympia during state legislative session. During the legislative session, daily communication with EA leadership and local counsel on issues of interest is necessary to relay information, collect feedback, or revise strategies related to critical aspects of the government relations strategy. Infrequent travel outside Olympia and Seattle may also be required to other states in the service area.

Advocate and promote Seattle Children’s mission.

Be a primary point of contact for state policymakers on behalf of Seattle Children’s and serve as the primary in-house registered lobbyist.  Be accountable for all lobbying filing and tracking.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key state policy stakeholders, especially in agencies.

Represent Seattle Children in forums such as public hearings, association meetings, etc.

Work closely with different communities across WA state and broader WAMI region.

Coordinate Seattle Children’s participation with relevant external groups including professional associations such as the Washington State Medical Association, WA AAP, the Washington State Hospital Association, and others as prioritized.

Assist and work collaboratively with, the AVP and other team members in the development of a state advocacy agenda, develop and implement strategies to educate and build support from government officials, interest groups and the public on these priorities.

Prepare summaries, presentations, issue briefs, correspondence, testimony, and talking points on an array of policy topics with the goal of influencing legislative, executive and regulatory decisions that impact Seattle Children in the clinical, academic and research settings.

Provide political analysis and strategy advice on all legislation and regulatory action.

Serve as a visionary leader and creative problem solver for state policy and political strategy, with a proven track record of success.

Experience with advocacy and coalition building and working in a complex highly-regulated environment.

Comfortable working as part of a dynamic team, sharing information, and synthesizing complex policy solutions.

Conduct research and analysis regarding statutory and regulatory issues that impact Seattle Children.

Manage facility and capital project-related engagements including, but not limited to, certificate of need applications, capital requests, transportation issues, road safety, and other funding and facility needs.

  

Required Education and Experience
8 yrs. experience in legislative and/or executive branch public policy work, or governmental relations.

Required Credentials


Preferred

10 years ’ experience in legislative and/or executive branch public policy work, or governmental relations

Prefer candidates with experience in healthcare policymaking in Washington state and existing relationships with key relevant policymakers.

Hospital experience and/or higher- ed a plus

Experience working within a highly matrixed organization

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of Seattle Children's and a demonstrated interest in improving health equity.

Strong understanding of Medicaid and other public payors.

Comfort and experience working and navigating within a large and complex organization.

Enthusiasm and vision for working on a dynamic and high-achieving team.

Compensation Range

$153,434.00 - $230,152.00 per year

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
