Department Summary:
The goal of ACS Productions is to communicate how chemistry shapes the world around us and highlight the amazing work being done by scientists around the globe. We make use of multiple media and distribution platforms to reach a broad swath of diverse audiences, and collaborate with other divisions and committees within ACS. From weekly webinars, to videos, live-streams, and podcasts, our products are rooted in science but open to audiences with many levels of knowledge about chemistry.
Position Summary:
This position would support the production of the podcast “Tiny Matters” and the video series "Headline Science" by researching topics, writing scripts, and crafting social media promotion. Ideally the candidate would pitch, research, and write scripts for the podcast and video series as well as be involved in the recording and interview process. There will also be an opportunity to assist with other video and live event projects within ACS Productions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Researching topics in journal articles and other sources of information.
- Finding experts to profile.
- Assisting in interviews with the experts.
- Writing video and audio scripts, with citations of sources.
- Crafting posts to promote the podcast or video on social media.
Education Requirements:
The Ideal candidate will be a rising Masters/PhD candidate, majoring in science communication.
Required Qualifications:

Strong interest in science communication
- Familiarity with scientific research and journal articles.
- Experience writing about science.
- Ability to distill scientific concepts for a non-expert audience.
- Experience with research and source citation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite
- Adobe Creative Suite skills a plus, but not required
Division
Position Summary
*This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. Schedule flexibility may be required for this role to support in-office activities. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice.
