Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Horticulture at University of Arkansas seeks a Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Ainong Shi to conduct plant breeding and genetics in vegetable crops focused on spinach and cowpea, and also do research on vegetable soybean, green bean, and tomato.
This job duties of the Research Associate include seed packaging, planting, harvesting, seed processing, breeding nursery maintenance and test plot management, data collection and analysis, greenhouse and seed lab management. The incumbent will help to coordinate all the field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities; supervise part-time employees and graduate students; participate in grant proposal writing; program development; preparing research reports and professional presentations/publications. In additions, the Associate will participate in the research on the USDA Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) project to evaluate and develop disease resistance to downy mildew, white rust and Fusarium wilt and identify SNP markers associated with the three diseases in spinach and will work on spinach breeding and genetics with focused on spinach disease resistance breeding and molecular breeding, identify QTLs resistance to diseases, and breeding new spinach cultivars with QTLs of disease resistance.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications A B.S. degree in plant breeding/genetics or related field, plus three years of related experience OR a M.S. degree in plant breeding/genetics or related field. Excellent knowledge and experience in QTL and association mapping, plant breeding and genetics Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. degree in plant breeding
