Job Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for work involving the maintenance and repair of machines, mechanical equipment, power tools, forklifts, welding machines, buildings, and other equipment. Other responsibilities may involve pipe fitting, insulating, welding, machining, carpentry, repairing electrical or mechanical equipment, as well as installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment and making minor repairs to the facilities. The Maintenance Technician position is also expected to participate in clean up duties to ensure work can be completed in a safe manner.
Essential Responsibilities
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and/or power tools
- Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of the buildings does not deteriorate
- Inspect drives, motors and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions by following checklists
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools including, but not limited to: hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring tools, and electrical testing devices
- Assemble, install, and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and other equipment as necessary
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose any potential machine malfunctions
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
- Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
- Understands and follows all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Cleans and organizes work area
- Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste
- Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- Understands and complies with DZ Hazardous Energy Control policies and procedures (lockout/tagout)
- Understands and complies with all DZ safety policies and OSHA regulations
- Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials in designated locations
- Ability to understand written or verbal instructions, operate a tape measure, and understand the difference between various types of steel
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance
- Ability to see to read drawings and instructions, and place materials where needed
- Ability to safely work on raised platforms, climb stairs or ladders, and climb off equipment or ladders
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach both above and below shoulder height
- Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills
- Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner
- Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands as needed
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Working Conditions
- Temperature and humidity variances consistent with normal outdoor ranges. Climate control in the facilities is limited. May occasionally require working outdoors
- Air contaminates such as smoke and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV
- The presence of electrical and compressed air sources
- The presence of bottled gas and oxygen
- The presence of chemicals
- The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks, or other vehicles
- May be subject to cramped working conditions in some cases
