Program Coordinator, Student Leadership

Overview

The mission of John H. Pace Jr. '39 Center for Civic Engagement is to make service and civic engagement a central part of the Princeton University student experience. The Pace Center staff guide undergraduate and graduate students in responsibly addressing the world's needs. The breadth of Pace Center programming encompasses connecting and learning from community, sustained volunteering, advocacy, activism, summer service internships, and post-graduate environmental justice fellowships.

 

The Program Coordinator for Student Leadership is responsible for the preparation and training of student leaders and participants engaging in Pace Center community engagement programs, including, but not limited to: Community Action, Community House, the Student Volunteers Council and other programs as directed. The Program Coordinator for Student Leadership plays a primary role in advising undergraduate service student organizations and assists in the management of student-initiated events and programming.

 

The Program Coordinator for Student Leadership will invite diverse perspectives and express a commitment to helping Princeton University students make the world more equitable. Candidates must be willing and able to adjust their schedule to accommodate evening and weekend hours for special events determined in advance. In addition, once a year, Pace staff participates in the Community Action Command Center.

 

The Program Coordinator for Student Leadership reports to the Senior Associate Director for Community Engagement & Program Director, Community Action. The Pace Center is one of eight units managed by the Office of the Vice President of Campus Life; Campus Life leads the University’s co-curricular efforts to provide an enriching experience for Princeton’s 5,200 undergraduates and 2,700 graduate students.

Responsibilities

Student Leadership Development & Learning (60%):

• Design and facilitate training modules (online and in person), bi-annual retreats and on-boarding sessions including resources for students leading (approx. 300 students annually) and/or students participating in Pace Center community engagement programs (approximately 1500-2000 students including but not limited to: Community Action, Community House, and the Student Volunteers Council) to deepen student learning, ensure students are appropriately prepared for service experiences and to strengthen leadership skills.
• Maintain and annually update pedagogical materials in collaboration with Associate Director, Engaged Pedagogy for students participating in service, including but not limited to the Pace Center’s online Reflection Learning Library.
• Manage regular communications with Pace Center community engagement student leaders and program participants related to leadership and learning opportunities throughout the year. Communications might include: email campaigns, in person meetings, event listings in MyPrincetonU, social media posts and basic website maintenance.
• Responsible for the creation and oversight of detailed and accurate program budgets. Responsible for the review and approval of student organization financial activity according to Princeton University and Pace Center policies.
• Lead annual recruitment for community engagement student leadership, such as marketing campaigns, fairs, and student drop-in hours.
• With the support of the Assistant Director of Assessment and Learning, annually evaluate programming and contribute to reports for the Pace Center.
• Contribute to Pace Center, Campus Life and campus-wide working groups and committees focused on student leadership and enhancement of institutional strategic priorities as assigned.

Advising & Pathways to Engagement (40%):

• Serve as the direct supervisor for a cohort of undergraduate students supporting training and learning through an academic year fellowship.
• Serve as the primary general advisor for individual students and/or student organizations seeking opportunities to engage in service.
• Serve as an advisor to a portfolio of student-led service groups or projects as assigned. Meets regularly with student group leaders to discuss events, logistics, initiatives, and overall strategy for community engagement programming. Reviews and approves student organization sponsored events in the online registration system. Serves as a bridge between student leaders and key University offices to support events and compliance with University policy (i.e. - Office of Dean of Undergraduate Students, Conference and Events Services, Public Safety).
• Maintain resources on best practices related to disaster response and when directed coordinate and/or convene an ad hoc response working group.
