About the role

Salary range is $130k to $230k, with a midpoint of $175k.  New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE: 

Under the general direction of the Chief of Staff – Cabinet (COS), the Deputy Chief of Staff – Cabinet (DCOS) serves as a strategic partner responsible for coordinating and advancing the work of the Cabinet, under the direction of the Chief of Staff – Cabinet, and at other times, Cabinet member.  

Manages and oversees strategic initiatives and projects to drive Cabinet member priorities and objectives aligned with Agency vision, priorities, and objectives. Manages and implements Cabinet department level goals, develops recommendations, develops and manages budget and supports onboarding new departmental leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Serves as partner to the Chief of Staff – Cabinet by providing candid, high-level advice and policy recommendations on a wide variety of programs, issues, and initiatives requiring Cabinet member attention or decision.
  • Manages high-priority projects in the Cabinet office, which frequently involves convening cross-functional teams, tracking tasks, planning meetings and events, and developing content.
  • Research, write, edit, and/or coordinate preparation of special reports, briefings, and presentations.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposals, inquiries, recommendations, and other communications forwarded to the COS, and solicits comments on materials generated by the Cabinet member.
  • Prepares a variety of briefings, reports, information papers, decision papers, and other materials.
  • Liaises between designated departments and divisions and the COS; communicates effectively on behalf of COS.
  • Participates in departmental business and goal planning, problem resolution.
  • Gathers, investigates, researches, analyzes, and/or studies information affecting agency-wide intradepartmental or interdepartmental operations.
  • Anticipates, identifies, and troubleshoots issues of concern or significance; exercises discretion to provide timely information and necessary updates to the COS and across multiple other stakeholders.
  • Ensures that matters and materials requiring the attention of the Cabinet member are thoroughly developed, researched, and evaluated; responds to routine inquiries as delegated by the COS or Cabinet member.
