Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Clinical Legal Education

Description
The University of Oklahoma College of Law (OU Law) invites applications for a full-time professor to teach in the OU Legal Clinic. OU Law is seeking to expand the scope of its clinical offerings and has identified several areas of interest, including rural access, immigration, transactional (including small business or economic development), family law (including child advocacy), or juvenile justice. We are open to creative proposals for clinics, including those not listed above, and invite applications from exceptional individuals with demonstrated expertise in any area of legal practice.
The successful candidate will be expected to accomplish the following:
- Develop new clinic in consultation with the OU Legal Clinic Director and Academic Dean
- Train, supervise, and mentor law students enrolled in the clinic
- Manage the clinic’s docket and handle client matters when students are unavailable
- Provide classroom instruction in lawyering skills courses as needed
- Work collaboratively with other clinical faculty members to enhance the program
- Build strong ties with the legal community and local partners
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- J.D. from ABA-accredited law school
- Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma or eligibility for and willingness to obtain such license within 8 months of accepting offer of employment
- 3 years practice in the relevant area or 1 year teaching full-time in law school clinic
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing a law school clinic
- 5 years practice in the relevant area or 2 years teaching full-time in law school clinic
This 9-month rank renewable-term faculty position is non-tenure-track. A candidate hired at the assistant level will be eligible for three annually renewable one-year contracts followed by eligibility for subsequent, five-year presumptively renewable contracts. Rank renewable-term faculty at the OU Law have faculty voting rights, except in matters of tenure and tenure-track hiring and promotion, and are expected to meet proportionate faculty committee and service obligations. Both entry-level and lateral candidates will be considered, and the successful candidate will be appointed to the rank (assistant, associate, or full) commensurate with experience and credentials.
