RESPONSIBLITIES

 

Social Services Aging & Adult Services Crisis Services provides short term financial assist to families in Durham County who meet County & State Program policy for rental & utlitity assistance.  Conducts comprehensive assessments of families financial crisis to provide support services & make the appropriate referrals to internal & external partners while ensure clients ability to remain in their homes safely & they are healthy.  Prepares reports & approval notice. Make pledges to utlitlty vendors & landlords, follow up on payments, provide financial counseling, assist family with budget preparation & make recommendations for other services & completed any related task.  Ability to use best practice strategies and professional judgement in complex situations are essential.  Must have knowledge of strong work ethics, excellent customer service skills & the ability to adapt to change.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures as evidenced by the ability to cite County Crisis Policy & State Energy Policy. 
  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior, family dynamics, and medical, behavioral and/or psychosocial problems to make referrals..
  • Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community.
  • Ability to interact and motivate a resistant involuntary client population and the public who may not agree rules or policies of the process or the programs.
  • Ability to prepare documentation such as written reportst, case records.
  • Ability to establish a supportive relationship and involve families in the initial assessment for services.
  • Ability to quickly assess the risks and safety of the client & their environment. 
  • Ability to employ expert negotiation skills in the most complex cases.
  • Ability to analyze tense family situations and make decisions about type of assistance available.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish supportive client relationships.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
