Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
As a member of the AdSmart Product Engineering Team, the Senior Engineer, Data Science, will be directly responsible for data science engineering as part of building out the necessary platform and products for NBCUniversal’s Universal Workstation. NBCUniversal’s audience management products will enable NBCUniversal to better understand its brand’s audiences such as NBC News, Bravo, The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, and USA Network as well as audiences that cross brands. The goal is to ensure we know who is watching what, where and when. In turn enabling NBCUniversal’s sales teams to properly align our audiences with the market advertisements that can benefit them the most.
You’re a big thinker who can analyze and evangelize a long-range opportunity, architect a groundbreaking solution, and roll-up your sleeves to get code out the door when needed. You are data driven and analytical. You understand the concept of a value proposition and evaluation criteria, and you know how to align them with low level milestones to get the work done. You can apply domain knowledge from one technical subject, in order to quickly ramp and deliver on a new one. You know how to learn from failure until you succeed, and you are able to articulate and quantify the reasons for your decisions.
You will be part of the AdSmart Data Technology team, participating in the data architecture that will drive both current and future data management initiatives within NBCUniversal’s Audience Studio group.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a senior data scientist for AdSmart data products.
- Participate in, and execute, a product roadmap with input from the delivery team, and stakeholders.
- Develop and code the data science services that is core to AdSmart, under the leadership and direction of the VP Architecture
- Analyze and report results and adjust the overall engineering strategy accordingly with engineering leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of machine learning model development experience in a corporate setup.
- Strong knowledge about time-series forecasting modeling and/or optimization algorithm
- Understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Ability to effectively apply data science theory to advertising and audience data.
- Fluency in Python modeling
- Understanding of basic statistical concepts
- Able to easily transition between high-level strategy and day-to-day implementation
- Native AWS experience
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with linear television or digital advertising technologies is highly preferred
- Model building experience with GPU’s
- Experience with designing and developing time-series forecasting models with Neural Networks for a large-scale genre-blending population
- Understanding of Set Theory and Cardinality Estimation
- Experience designing and developing optimization algorithms for scheduling, planning, and resource allocation
- Experience applying operations research techniques such as lin
