Overview:
At Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), we are committed to excellence in emergency services and operational coordination. We are seeking a dedicated Senior Control Center Assistant (SCCA) to join our team. This multifaceted role combines critical responsibilities in emergency response with operational planning and coordination under minimal supervision within the Laboratory Emergency Response Center (LERC). In addition, this position can be called upon to cover 12-hour rotating shifts as needed.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Senior Control Center Assistant, you will have a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations. Your responsibilities will include:

Collaborate with various groups and outside agencies, including IT and other systems teams, to enhance the efficiency of technological infrastructure, including computer networks, telecommunications equipment, and software, in support of smooth operations.

Coordinate developing operational plans, including the development and implementation of procedures and plans to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards across all LERC operations.

Design, oversee, and continuously improve training programs for staff, including teaching them how to use new software programs or operate new equipment.

Coordinate various services offered by LERC to streamline service delivery, improve response times, and enhance service quality.

Operate a multi-line telephone system to answer both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

Operate and monitor alarm systems, including facility safety, fire, radiation, and utility alarms.

Operate and communicate on fixed-based communications equipment, including the 911 system.

Enter call information into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.

Evaluate callers to determine the appropriate nature of calls and the level of response necessary based on various factors.

Calm, negotiate, advise, and communicate with callers to obtain necessary and accurate information.

Simultaneously process information without sacrificing speed and accuracy.

Monitor the location, status, and needs of responders through various means, including radio, telephone, computer, and logs.

Use systems and equipment to make on-site and off-site emergency notifications, initiate protective actions, and convey other announcements as needed.

Perform limited visitor services duties, such as issuing temporary badges and assisting with site access.

Maintain required forms and logs.

Basic Requirements:

An associate degree in a related field with a minimum of seven years of experience in emergency services dispatching or emergency first responder experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in emergency services, operations coordination, training, and cross-functional collaboration, including optimizing technological infrastructure and coordinating operational plans.

Proficient in project coordination, with a track record of successfully completing projects and initiatives.

Proficiency in utilizing computer systems and Microsoft Office suite.

Strong organizational skills.

Knowledge of emergency dispatch systems and technology.

Ability to work in high-pressure situations.
Special Requirements:
-
Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
