Individuals working as Recreation Leaders in the Merit System perform a variety of tasks associated with developing and implementing recreational programs and managing recreational facilities. Employees in this job class are responsible for developing and coordinating recreation programs, activities, and special events for diverse groups of patrons. They regularly inspect the facilities, grounds, and equipment to ensure the recreation center is properly maintained. Additionally, they spend time developing relationships with their community members to help market and promote the facilities' activities.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Driver's license.
Experience assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of recreation programs and activities (e.g., coaching teams, officiating games, coordinating recreational sports leagues, summer camp programs, aquatic programs and special events, senior citizen programs/activities).
Experience coordinating with volunteers and/or part-time employees involved in recreational programs/activities (e.g., recruiting/identifying volunteers, scheduling volunteers, directing work of volunteers/part-time employees).
Experience using computer software to create marketing materials for recreational programs/activities, creating game schedules for sports leagues, documenting employee/volunteer work schedules, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Merit System agencies. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
First Aid/CPR Certification.
Certified Pool Operator.
Associate's degree or higher in Sports and Recreation Management, Parks and Recreation Management, Physical Education, or a highly related field.
Experience setting up playfields for a variety of sports (e.g., lining fields for football, baseball, etc.).
Experience working in a pool setting.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Participates in the maintenance and upkeep of the recreation center building, the grounds surrounding the recreation center, and the supplies and equipment used in the recreation center by inspecting facilities and equipment, ensuring supplies are available, and needed maintenance is performed.
Develops, coordinates, and executes recreational programs, activities, and/or special events for various groups (e.g., recreation center patrons, seniors, youth, etc.) by planning, scheduling, and leading the activities in conjunction with existing programs and events.
Participates in the development and distribution of marketing and advertising for programs, activities, and events of the recreation center in order to inform the community of the recreation center’s offerings.
Maintains records and files by completing various documents electronically and/or handwritten (e.g., supply usage, attendance, patron reports, contact information) regarding recreation center activities and programs.
Assists appropriate staff in the development and coordination of youth and/or adult recreational sports leagues by aiding with planning and participating in the implementation of the league.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves significant and concerted physical exertion required for regular prolonged periods of walking, running, stooping, kneeling, crouching, etc.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in employer-owned facilities such as community civic centers, recreation centers, etc. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc., as well as equipment related to recreational activities and programs.EEO STATEMENT:
