Staff Accountant, Empire State New Market Cor

BASIC FUNCTION:  

Responsible for the recording and analysis of all the financial activity and the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and other key management reports related to ESD’s subsidiary Empire State New Markets Corporation (“ESNMC”) and ESNMC subsidiary entities.

WORK PERFORMED:

• Record all transactions for assigned programs/subsidiaries.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, account analysis and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly payment authorization forms related to fund disbursements and provides general ledger coding for payments as needed.
• Perform other accounting functions such as review of invoices, purchase orders, requisitions, cash deposits for assigned ESNMC subsidiaries. 
• Prepare quarterly unaudited financial statements for assigned ESNMC subsidiary entities.
• Responsible for annual audits for ESNMC and its subsidiary entities. 
• Analyze and reconcile all programmatic income and expense accounts related to the assigned entities.
• Act as backup to the Staff Accountant of State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI).
• Perform tasks, analyses and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level Required: bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Related Field. 

Relevant Experience Required: 3-4 years proven accounting/finance experience; Government or non-profit experience preferred. 

Knowledge Required: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook (PowerPoint a plus); Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Experience analyzing audited financial statements; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Skilled in accounting software systems, PeopleSoft experience a plus; Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
