The athletic training department at Phillips Exeter Academy is excited to welcome a new member to the athletic training team. This newly created position will join a team of four and a half athletic trainers and colleagues within the Lamont Health and Wellness Center to provide student centered care within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will Assist the Director of Athletic Training and the team in the planning, organization, direction and execution of programs associated with the care and prevention of orthopedic-related injuries, and the management of other injuries and illnesses that impact on students’ health and wellness.
This is a benefited position, scheduled full-time over the academic year schedule (40 hours/week over 40 weeks). Additional summer employment is optional but may be required on a rotating annual basis if departmental staffing needs are not met. Hours will vary according to seasonal demands and Academy needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the establishment and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Participate in long-range departmental operational planning.
- Provide education and serve as a resource for students and academy employees on injury/illness prevention and wellness.
- Responsible for the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of all orthopedic injuries across campus.
- Apply indicated injury risk reduction methods to students.
- Provides immediate emergency care during times of physical activity, including being present at interscholastic events as scheduled by the Director of Athletic Training.
- Provide respectful communication, within limits of confidentiality, on student health matters between coaches, parents and health care providers.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of Athletic Training Center activities and pertinent medical data.
- May function as the Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for undergraduate athletic training students from accredited programs.
- Responsible for key additional administrative tasks or meetings as assigned by the Director of Athletic Training annually. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, concussion management and oversight, departmental professional development coordination, inventory and ordering, partner in institutional community prevention seminars, physical therapy scheduling and management, injury prevention programming and instruction, in-season high risk sports coverage with travel, and collaboration with seasonal scheduling.
- Provide athletic training services for students enrolled in the Exeter Summer program.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Thorough knowledge of professional athletic training principles, methods and procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties; and medical supplies and equipment used in athletic training practice.

- Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action.
- Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to certified athletic training.

Position Requirements
Education
- Undergraduate degree minimum.
- Masters preferred.
- NATA-BOC certification and NH state license or the ability to obtain prior to hiring required
- Additional certification in strength and conditioning (CSCS) preferred.
Experience
- 3 - 5 years’ experience working as a certified athletic trainer preferred.
- Approved clinical instructor experience preferred.
